Besides being one of a only handful of people appointed US Poet Laureate two times (once when the position was simply called "Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress" ), we are reminded by Patti Becker, Ph.D, of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, that Stanley Kunitz also edited the Wilson Library Journal from 1928-1943. I quite like his poems but was not aware he had this position.
Because of that relationship to a prominent library-related journal, she thinks he has a leg up on other Poet Laureates, and should be added.
This raises a very interesting question. Should every US Poet Laureate be considered a library-poet because they serve as official "Consultant" to the Library of Congress? I am going to e-mail a friend at the LOC, and in the meantime some of you can weigh in on the question.
