It's almost the 8th annual Dead Poets Remembrance Day, the literary holiday dedicated to remembering our past poets. The holiday is meant to be a celebration of people in local communities who honor the poetic gift that lived in past regional and national poets. What often happens is that groups will:
-- Meet at a poet's grave;
--Meet in a bookstore or library;
--Make the holiday part of an already-scheduled poetry reading or literary event;
As former Kansas Poet Laureate, Caryn Mirriam-Goldberg said: "Long Live our Dead Poets!"
While some past NPRD events have been planned in conjunction with State Arts Agencies, most events take place in conjunction with poetry associations and with the support of State Poets Laureate and groups of like-minded individuals.
Be Creative! Our dead poets were, and they appreciate your concern.
National Poets Remembrance Day takes place on October 7th, or the weekend closest to the 7th if the 7th is a weekday.
