Dead Poets Remembrance Day 2015 in NH will be celebrated in Keene this year, on Sunday, October 18th. We'll be meeting at the Toadstool Bookstore.
Among the readers will be Andrew Pereali, Bill Doreski and James Duffy, with others to be announced.
Last year Alice B. Fogel, New Hampshire's current poet laureate, is the latest in a growing list of laureates to endourse the national literary holiday. She wrote in:
Dead Poets Remembrance Day events are a delightful way to connect with poets we may have forgotten or put aside, as well as with all the participants and attendees. I can't wait till the next one to see who else we can resurrect, and I highly recommend hosting events like this in every state.
On the 1st National Dead Poets Remembrance Day in 2010 there was an historic gathering of New Hampshire poets at the iconic Frost Farm. The readings during that celebration were filmed and are now online, at Remembering the Dead Poets of the Granite State.
This year's 4th annual Dead Poets Remembrance Day celebrations in Hew Hampshire will be in special honor of Walter Butts, the Poet Laureate of NH from 2009 to 2013. Here is a video of Walter reading a poem at the grave of Robert Lowell.
“We are really fortunate to have both current NH Laureate, Alice Fogel, and former Laureate, Patricia Fargnoli, reading for us this year,” said Walter Skold. “Having these well-known poets presenting the works of their Laureate forebears will be a treat.”
The free public event will start at 1:30 PM, and there is great food and drink available at the True Brew Café, inside Gibson’s.
