Immediate Release: September 4, 2014:
“We are really fortunate to have both current NH Laureate, Alice Fogel, and former Laureate, Patricia Fargnoli, reading for us this year,” said Walter Skold. “Having these well-known poets presenting the works of their Laureate forebears will be a treat.”
The free public event will start at 1:30 PM, and there is great food and drink available at the True Brew Café, inside Gibson’s.
“We are also excited to have three other fine poets presenting the work of New Hampshire poets Jane Kenyon, Richard Eberhart, and Robert and Marjorie Frost,” said Skold.
Those readers will be Don Kimball, the President of the New Hampshire Poetry Society, Mimi White, a former poet laureate of Portsmouth, and Bill Gleed, the head ranger at the Robert Frost Farm, in Derry.
Dead Poets Remembrance Day is a national literary holiday started in 2010 by 13 State Poets Laureate in cooperation with the Dead Poets Society of America and it has grown in popularity since then.
The annual holiday is October 7th, but events often take place on the weekend closest to that date. It is a time for people who love our past poets to gather in small or large groups at the graves of poets or bookstores to read and remember their favorite local or regional poets.
Other regional events will be held in Amherst, on October 4th, Philadelphia, on October 5th, and Portland, Maine, on October 10th.
