Believe it or not...Ripley was a well-known poet in Vermont who had friendships with Whittier, Longfellow, Lowell, and others, and married a wealthy banker named Dorr.
She was also one of the founders of the Rutland Free Library! Another great example to prove that poets and librarians lead the world!
