The Great Boston Poetry Marathon of 2010 Announced

This Columbus Day sail the ocean of poetic imagination as Dedgar The Poemobile leads a sunrise to sunset reading of over 40 poets at five major locations. Celebrate Dead Poets Remembrance Day in style, by joining the caravan for the whole day, starting at 6:15, in Gloucester, or meeting for a reading at Beverly, Salem, Boston Commons, Mt. Auburn Cemetery, or Author's Ridge.

This historic journey to the graves of so many sung and unsung poets is the longest poetry marathon in the history of Mt. Parnassus. We are looking for a reader for each of our 44 poets being read.

"Remembering Maine's Island Poets" Oct. 7th

On October 7th, the Dead Poets Society of America, in cooperation with individuals and institutions on the Maine coast, is organizing "Remembering Maine's Island Poets", a day-long, 6-event reading up the coast of Maine, starting at sunrise in Harpswell and ending at sunset at Cadillac Mountain.

A new blog has been started to provide Mainers with information about where we will have community readings that highlight the lives and work of 36 Maine poets.

Participants are welcome to sign up to read a work from one of their favorite Maine poets, and blog readers can make comments with suggestions for poems to be read that day (they all will have something to do with the "Islands" ie., fishing, shipbuilding, sailing, vacationing, the coast, etc.)

NC Dead Poets Bash Tonight

Tonight the Grand Tour arrives in Fountain, North Carolina, where some local bards, bartenders, and blues singers have lined up a great Bash to remember NC poets. A nice announcement appeared in the Wilson Times:

Pembroke Magazine editor and poet Shelby Stephenson will read poems by Sam Ragan and Paul Green. Wilson-based poet Jim Clark will perform poems by Byron Herbert Reece set to original music composed by Clark. Lightnin' Wells will read poems by George Moses Horton and perform songs by Piedmont blues poets Blind Boy Fuller and the Rev. Gary Davis.

Others have committed to read poems by A. R. Ammons, Jonathan Williams, Randall Jarrell, and Rocky Mount's William Boyd.

"Anyone who's interested in poetry is welcome to bring along a favorite poem by a dead Tar Heel poet to read," said Albright. "Who knows? You might wind up in the documentary."

Tuesday's event is the only North Carolina stop on the Dead Poets Bash tour, which concludes later this month in Massachusetts with a 24-hour marathon visit to 48 dead poets' graves.

Dead Poets Video Collection Has Begun

The Dead Poets Video Project has officially begun, with the posting of forty-three (43) videos of readings and adventures from the gravesites of famous American poets. Journey to the graves of Elizabeth Bishop, James Dickey, Gwendolyn Brooks, Theodore Roethke, Henry Timrod, Robert Penn Warren, Carl Sandburg and many more.
