The Preacher-Poets of Harvard

Preaching and Poetry has a long tradition, going back to the Biblical writers themselves.

In the British Colonies, and later United States, preacher-poets have been in the forefront of trends and changes in culture and theology, as well as leaders in revival and social reform movements.

Many of these preacher-poets cut their theological and literary teeth at Harvard, and we'll spend an evening giving voice to their voices and learning about their passions through their poetry. These will include:

Micahel Wigglesworth

Edward Taylor

Timothy Flint

Jones Very

John Pierpont, Sr.

Christopher Cranch

Thomas Wentworth Higginson

Amos Niven Wilder
